Heavy Rain Forecast For Western And Northern Japan

A low pressure system and a rain front are bringing rain clouds to western Japan along the Sea of Japan coast.
Japan's Meteorological Agency says torrential rains will likely fall through Wednesday in a wide area ranging from the southwestern region of Kyushu to the Tohoku region in the northeast.
The agency also forecasts strong winds and stormy weather conditions for those regions.
In the 24-hour period through Wednesday noon, up to 250 millimeters of rain is forecast for the Tokai region, 200 millimeters for Shikoku, and 180 millimeters for southern Kyushu, Kinki and Kanto-koshin.
Rainfall of up to 150 millimeters is expected in northern Kyushu, 130 millimeters in Hokuriku, 120 millimeters in Amami, and 100 millimeters in the Chugoku and Tohoku regions during the same period.
In the 24-hour period through Thursday noon, up to 100 millimeters of rain will likely fall in Amami, southern Kyushu, and the Izu Islands.
Weather officials are warning of possible landslides, flooding in low-lying areas and swollen rivers.
