Hokkaido's Daily Coronavirus Cases To Hit 200

Hokkaido's daily coronavirus cases to hit 200

The northern Japan prefecture of Hokkaido is expected to report at least 200 new cases of coronavirus infection on Monday. It would be the first time the daily figure there has reached that mark.

Hokkaido's tally has exceeded 100 for four consecutive days. The number of new infections totaled 187 on Saturday, followed by 153 on Sunday.

Sources say the number will likely be still higher on Monday.

The Hokkaido government on Saturday raised its coronavirus alert to Level 3 on its scale of five.

Officials are asking bars and night clubs in the Susukino entertainment district in the prefectural capital city of Sapporo to shorten operating hours.

The officials are also calling on residents and businesses in Hokkaido to take thorough precautions against the virus.
