Hot Weather Expected In Many Parts Of Japan

Scorching heat is expected in many parts of Japan on Monday, with temperatures likely to top 35 degrees Celsius in some areas.
The Meteorological Agency says that warm, moist air will likely drive up temperatures in western Japan, as well as in areas along the Sea of Japan in the eastern and northern parts of the country.
A daytime high of 37 degrees is forecast for the city of Nagaoka in Niigata Prefecture, 36 degrees for the city of Kitaakita in Akita Prefecture, and 35 degrees for the cities of Kagoshima, Tottori and Maizuru.
Heatstroke alerts have been issued for 12 prefectures, including Niigata and Okinawa.
People are advised to take precautions against heatstroke, such as staying hydrated and using air conditioners appropriately when indoors.
The meteorological agency also says that atmospheric conditions will likely become unstable across a wide area from eastern to western Japan due to moist air, and that rain clouds may develop in some parts.
The agency is urging caution against torrential rains, lightning strikes, tornadoes and wind gusts.
