Imperial celebration for crown prince proclamation

Members of Japan's Imperial family have celebrated Crown Prince Akishino's public proclamation as heir to the throne.

Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako and Crown Prince and Princess Akishino arrived at the Imperial Palace through the Hanzomon Gate on Tuesday morning.

This was the first time the Crown Prince and Princess left their Akasaka Estate since the proclamation ceremony on Sunday.

They had the windows of their vehicle open and were seen waving and smiling.

Twenty-three people including Imperial family members and former members attended the celebration in the Takenoma room.

Prince and Princess Hitachi reportedly delivered a congratulatory message on behalf of the attendees. The Emperor is said to have expressed appreciation for it.
