Ioc President Likely To Arrive In Japan On July 9
International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach is expected to arrive in Japan on July 9 -- two weeks before the opening of the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Sources say coordination is underway for the planned visit to Japan by the IOC chief.
Bach had been expected to visit Japan in May for the Olympic torch relay in Hiroshima.
But the plan was canceled after the Japanese government extended the state of emergency for the coronavirus. Bach then said then he would visit Japan in mid-July just before the Games open on July 23.
The organizing committee's director general, Muto Toshiro, says he has been told the IOC chief will likely come to Japan earlier than originally thought.
The IOC Coordination Commission chair, John Coates, and other officials are already in Japan and are inspecting Olympic venues.
