Jal Offers Simulated Pilot Experience Program

Japan Airlines is offering members of the public a realistic pilot experience in an effort to get more people interested in flying.
The program allows participants to operate a cockpit flight simulator at Tokyo's Haneda Airport. The simulator is 7 meters high and 5 meters wide and is usually used by pilots for training or trials.
Participants select a range of settings, such as flight duration and weather conditions. Then they can experience operating an aircraft from takeoff to landing under the guidance of an instructor.
On landing, the simulator vibrates like a real plane touching down on the runway. Participants can also visit an air traffic control room which is usually closed to the public.
The program costs about 2,800 dollars and is limited to 16 groups of two people.
Young JAL employees came up with the idea to help the company recover from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
