Japan Approves More Sanctions On Russia

Japan's government formally approved additional sanctions on Russia in a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday in response to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
The move reflects Japan's belief that it must work with the Group of Seven nations to step up pressure against Russia.
The new sanctions include freezing the assets of 141 people, including Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and individuals with ties to pro-Russian groups in the eastern Ukraine regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.
Exports to 71 military-related entities, including Russian shipbuilding and research facilities, will be banned. Also prohibited will be the export of quantum computers, 3-D printers and other high-tech products.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu said Japan strongly condemns Russia's cruel and atrocious actions. He noted this is a time when G7's unity is most important and said Japan will also ban imports of Russian oil.
Matsuno added that Japan will continue to work with the G7 and the rest of the global community to take appropriate action.
