Japan Automakers Weighed Down By Parts Shortages In April

Most major Japanese automakers continued to feel the effects of global production problems in April. The firms saw their worldwide output fall amid chip shortages and supply disruptions caused by lockdowns in Shanghai.
Production dropped 54.2 percent at Honda, 49.9 percent at Mazda and 31.4 percent at Mitsubishi. Nissan posted a decline of 26.5 percent, Toyota's production dropped 9.1 percent, while Suzuki fell 4.6 percent.
There were some automakers that managed to rebound from sharp production drops last year. Subaru's output soared 63.3 percent in April and Daihatsu's edged up 4.1 percent.
