Japan Fm Likely To Meet Delegation From S.korea On Monday
Japan's Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa is making final arrangements to meet a delegation sent by South Korea's President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol on Monday.
The seven-member delegation is scheduled to visit Japan from Sunday through Thursday ahead of Yoon's inauguration on May 10. The delegates include National Assembly Deputy Speaker Chung Jin-suk.
Hayashi will likely exchange views on Japan-South Korea relations and North Korean issues with the delegation in the foreign ministry building on Monday.
Hayashi told reporters on Friday that the two countries need to develop relations as North Korea steps up its nuclear and missile programs.
He also said he wants to take the opportunity to build sound communication with the country's incoming government.
The South Korean delegates are also seeking to meet Prime Minister Kishida Fumio during their stay.
Government officials say they will carefully consider a response to their request, while keeping an eye on the delegates' moves.
