Japan Hopes For Trust Between Suga, Biden

Japan hopes for trust between Suga, Biden

The Japanese government hopes to build trust between Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide and Joe Biden, who is projected to be the next US president.

Most Japanese government officials have reacted calmly to the US media reports that Biden is certain to win the presidential election.

The government believes it's extremely important to build trust between the Japanese and US leaders and have Suga visit the US for summit talks with Biden at an appropriate time after power transition in the country.

Japan wants to reaffirm its close cooperation with the US in responding to the coronavirus pandemic, addressing global issues, such as climate change, and security issues involving North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.

Many Japanese officials expect the next US administration to basically retain the current China policy as the two countries remain at odds.

The Japanese government plans to decide how it will improve relations between Japan and China while keeping an eye on actions by the new US government.
