Japan pledges $1 mil. for ASEAN COVID-19 fund

Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu has pledged that Japan will contribute one million dollars to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to help fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Motegi took part in an online meeting on Wednesday with his counterparts from the 10-member ASEAN, China and South Korea.

Motegi said Japan wants to help ASEAN strengthen its response to the virus.

He also vowed to support the establishment of an ASEAN center for the control of infectious diseases. Motegi said that Japan will provide ASEAN members with healthcare equipment and extend yen loans to help their economic recovery.
