Japan Reports 9 - Fold Monthly Increase In New Foreign Arrivals For March

Japanese immigration authorities say the number of new foreign arrivals last month surpassed 48,000, marking a more than nine-fold increase from February.
Preliminary data released by the Immigration Services Agency show 48,418 foreign nationals newly entered Japan in March.
Japan eased its border controls on March 1, resuming new entries of foreign nationals other than tourists. Severe entry restrictions had been in place since last November in response to the Omicron coronavirus variant.
The agency says that among the new foreign entrants, student visa holders topped the list at 14,810, followed by 10,163 technical trainees, while 6,522 were short-term stay visitors.
It also says 34,037 foreigners reentered Japan, while the number of returning Japanese nationals was 90,389.
