Japanese Journalist Detained In Myanmar Faces Charges

A Japanese journalist detained in Myanmar is facing charges that include violating the immigration law.
The charges against Kubota Toru were announced on Thursday.
The military-governing council says Kubota entered the country on a tourist visa on July 1st.
He was detained by security forces while filming an anti-junta protest on his mobile-phone camera in Yangon on July 30th.
Kubota had reportedly contacted the activists the day before the protest.
Japanese Embassy officials in Myanmar tell NHK that they are aware that he has been charged and that they are now trying to confirm the details.
