Japan's Imperial Household Agency To Start Using Social Media

Japan's Imperial Household Agency says it plans to start actively sharing information on social media to provide more accurate news about the Imperial family.
The agency said on Tuesday that it will create a new position of a senior official to upgrade its public relations system, and add two officials dedicated to the work. The agency has included the plan in its budget request for the next fiscal year.
The agency says it will update its existing website and consider using social media for the first time.
The move comes after former Princess Mako reportedly suffered health issues over articles in weekly magazines and online posts about her marriage last October to college classmate Komuro Kei. The onslaught of gossip is said to have been a factor behind Mako's diagnosis of complex post-traumatic stress disorder.
The agency says it took into account the need to provide accurate information because erroneous data is circulating.
