Jetro To Explore Opportunities In Africa For Japanese Firms

Japan's main foreign-investment-promotion body is planning to explore new opportunities in Africa for Japanese companies.
The Japan External Trade Organization, or JETRO, will push the initiative at a business forum on the sidelines of a Tokyo-led conference in Tunisia.
About 50 Japanese companies will attend the forum.
JETRO Chairman and CEO Sasaki Nobuhiko disclosed the plans ahead of the main event, the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development, or TICAD. That takes place this weekend.
Sasaki said that the conference will offer a chance to expand businesses through strengthening ties between the growth engines on the continent and Japan's business community.
Sasaki said the world has high hopes for Africa as a market with a growing population.
Yet he acknowledged that many of its countries are struggling with soaring energy and food prices on the back of the conflict in Ukraine.
Sasaki stressed that it is key for Japanese companies to maintain friendly ties in Africa throughout difficult times.
