Jma: Large - Scale Eruptions Not Imminent On Sakurajima
The Japan Meteorological Agency says large-scale eruptions are not imminent on Sakurajima in the southwestern prefecture of Kagoshima.
The agency's prediction is based on its analysis of seismic activity, crustal movements and other data after the volcano erupted shortly after 8 p.m. on Sunday.
The agency said it raised the volcanic alert to the highest level of five after confirming that large volcanic rocks had flown more than 2.5 kilometers.
