Karuizawa And Niigata Chosen To Host 2 Of 14 G7 Ministerial Meetings In Japan
Venues are being chosen in Japan for 14 Group of Seven ministerial meetings that will be held before the G7 summit. The summit is schedule to take place in Hiroshima next May.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu said on Tuesday that the G7 foreign ministers' meeting will be held in Karuizawa, a resort town in Nagano Prefecture.
He said the meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors will be staged in Niigata City, which is located on the Sea of Japan coast.
Decisions about the venues for all the meetings will be made by the end of September.
Matsuno said the security arrangements are important and that he wants all the events to take place without a hitch.
He said the fundamental review of protocols, which was recently concluded by the National Police Agency, will be taken into consideration.
Matsuno said the government will do its utmost to fulfill its responsibilities as the host nation.
Police officials revised their security protocols after former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo was fatally shot. Abe was attacked while delivering a campaign speech in July.
