Kishida Plans To Attend Shangri - La Dialogue Security Summit Next Month
Preparations are underway for Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio to give a keynote speech at an Asia security summit to be held in Singapore next month.
Kishida would be the first Japanese prime minister in eight years to attend the Shangri-La Dialogue, which brings together defense and military leaders to discuss Asia-Pacific security issues.
He is expected to reiterate that unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force must not be tolerated anywhere in the world.
He is also likely to brief on a plan for bolstering Japan's defense capabilities, and to urge participants to join hands to achieve a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
Kishida's diplomacy is in full swing. Last week, he met with visiting US President Joe Biden and hosted a summit of the Quad framework, which is made up of Japan, the United States, Australia and India.
He also met with leaders of some Southeast Asian countries to discuss bilateral and international agendas.
