Kishida To Attend Shangri - La Dialogue Security Summit

The Japanese government has announced that Prime Minister Kishida Fumio will give a keynote speech at an Asia security summit to be held in Singapore.
Kishida will be the first Japanese prime minister in eight years to attend the Shangri-La Dialogue, which starts on Friday next week. The conference brings together defense and military leaders to discuss Asia-Pacific security issues.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu says Kishida will talk about Japan's efforts for a free and open Indo-Pacific region. He will also explain Japan's diplomatic and security policy, noting the worsening security situation surrounding Asia and the rest of the world in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Matsuno says the prime minister will reiterate that unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force must not be tolerated anywhere in the world.
The prime minister is expected to explain how Japan plans to bolster its defense capabilities and contribute to achieving peace and stability in the region.
