Kono To Be In Charge Of Vaccine Coordination
Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide says he intends to appoint Regulatory Reform Minister Kono Taro as coordinator of coronavirus vaccinations in Japan.
Suga revealed a plan to carry out vaccinations at a news conference on Monday.
Suga said the government will do its utmost to deliver safe and effective coronavirus vaccines. He said he decided to assign Kono the task because of his track record in addressing issues involving ministries and agencies as regulatory reform minister.
Suga said vaccines are the key to preventing infections and that the government will work as hard as possible to start vaccinations by the end of February.
He said the government has been working with local authorities to make it possible to smoothly vaccinate people in need.
