Ldp's Nakasone Pledges To Tackle Tightened Security Issues

Former Foreign Minister Nakasone Hirofumi of the Liberal Democratic Party is projected to retain his seat in the Gunma district.
The 76-year-old also served as education, culture, sports, science and technology minister during his six consecutive terms.
He told reporters on Sunday that this election is important as it will determine the future of Japan. He added he would do his best to tackle the issues including tightened regional security surrounding Japan by making use of his 36 years of experience as a lawmaker.
He is the son of the late prime minister Nakasone Yasuhiro. While in power Nakasone Yasuhiro carried out dramatic administrative reforms and promoted ties with the United States. He is also known for his close relationship in the 1980s with then-US president Ronald Reagan.
