List Of Candidates To Succeed Mori Narrowed Down
A panel tasked with selecting a candidate to become the new president of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games' organizing committee held its second meeting on Wednesday. It is believed to have narrowed down a list of possible candidates to succeed Mori Yoshiro.
Mori offered to step down last week in response to the backlash against remarks he made that were considered to be demeaning to women.
The panel of eight members is mainly comprised of athletes. It met behind closed doors to discuss the five qualities that the new president is required to have.
The five criteria include a profound knowledge of sports and of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the ability to make gender equality a reality, while realizing the other ideals stipulated in the Olympic Charter and the Tokyo Games' visions.
The individual is also required to be able to run an organization effectively and coordinate with other parties.
The organizing committee hopes to hold a board meeting to select the new president as early as this week.
