Little Progress Made In Search For Missing Boat Passengers Off Hokkaido
A search operation using an unmanned submersible continued on Monday to find people who went missing after a tour boat sank off Hokkaido, northern Japan, last month. But no new clues were reported to have been found about the whereabouts of the missing passengers.
The "KAZU I" sank off the Shiretoko Peninsula during a sightseeing cruise on April 23. Of the 26 people on board, 14 have been confirmed dead and 12 remain missing.
The boat lies on the seabed at a depth of 120 meters.
The crew of a salvage company's vessel ended their underwater operation for Monday and plan to resume it on Tuesday or later.
The search from the surface has also made little progress. No new clues had been found as of 3 p.m. on Monday.
The Japan Coast Guard plans to continue its search through the night covering a wide area off the Shiretoko Peninsula.
