New Tokyo 2020 Games Chief To Leave Ldp

Sources say the new Tokyo Games organizing committee chief plans to leave Japan's main ruling Liberal Democratic Party to demonstrate her political neutrality.
Hashimoto Seiko reportedly plans to submit her resignation as a party member on Friday.
Earlier, the Tokyo Games chief said she would not resign as a lawmaker or from the LDP. Opposition party members criticized her, saying she could use the Olympics to benefit the ruling party.
Hashimoto replaced former Tokyo Games chief Mori Yoshiro on Thursday when he resigned after making seemingly sexist remarks that unleashed an international backlash.
