No Problems Reported With First Japan Vaccinations
The Japanese government says 125 healthcare workers had received their first shot of a coronavirus vaccine by Wednesday evening. It says there have been no reports of severe allergic reactions so far.
Japan began vaccinating about 40,000 healthcare workers on Wednesday as the first of the priority groups in the country's inoculation program.
Speaking on Thursday, Chief Cabinet Secretary Kato Katsunobu said the 125 shots had been administered at eight medical institutions by 5 p.m. on the previous day.
Kato said the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency, or PMDA, has not received any reports of people dying or developing a severe allergic reaction known as anaphylaxis after vaccination. The PMDA is responsible for screening pharmaceuticals in Japan.
Kato added that the health ministry has not received any reports of other vaccination-related problems.
