Osaka Naomi Wins Her First Match Of The Season
Tennis player Osaka Naomi has won her first match of the season in two straight sets in Melbourne, Australia.
World No. 3 Osaka played on Tuesday in the second round of the Gippsland Trophy, a warm-up tournament for the Australian Open that is to kick off next week. It was Osaka's first match since winning the US Open in September.
The Japanese player cruised past No. 53-ranked Alize Cornet from France 6-2, 6-2.
She will face No. 371-ranked Briton Katie Boulter in the next round.
After the match, Osaka said it's always nice to be in Australia and that she feels like everyone welcomes her. She said she's "really glad that you guys opened your arms and we're able to play here."
