Panel To Meet Over Selection Of Tokyo Games Head

Members of a panel tasked with helping select the new president of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games organizing committee are expected to meet for the first time as early as Tuesday.
Sources told NHK that Mitarai Fujio, honorary president of the committee, will chair the panel. They said it consists of four men and four women, many of whom are athletes.
This is part of an attempt to pick a successor to Mori Yoshiro in a transparent manner. Mori offered to step down after he made remarks that were criticized as demeaning to women.
Committee officials aim to hold a board meeting as early as this week to finalize the selection.
They said they would keep the panel's members and its selection process secret until then, so the new president will be chosen without a hitch.
