Severe Tropical Storm Expected To Approach Ogasawara Islands
A severe tropical storm is expected to approach Japan's Ogasawara Islands in the Pacific on Monday evening.
Japanese weather officials say that on Monday morning, Hinnamnor was over waters 310 kilometers east of one of the islands, Chichijima. It was traveling west at 30 kilometers per hour.
The storm had a central atmospheric pressure of 985 hectopascals. Winds of at least 90 kilometers per hour were blowing within a 55-kilometer radius from its center.
The storm zone is expected to engulf the Ogasawara Islands, with maximum gusts likely to reach about 140 kilometers per hour. Extremely rough seas are also forecast.
Through early Tuesday, the area may have very heavy rain and thunder. In the 24 hours to Tuesday noon, 150 millimeters of rain is expected.
Winds and rain could suddenly get stronger.
The Meteorological Agency is urging caution for violent winds, high waves, mudslides, flooding in low-lying areas and swelling rivers.
