Skiers Hit By Avalanche On Mt Norikura
Police say a man was found unconscious and a few other people were injured in an avalanche on Mount Norikura on the border of Nagano and Gifu prefectures in central Japan on Sunday.
Police and fire officials say the avalanche occurred on the Nagano side of the mountain around 10 a.m., and that an eyewitness reported that multiple people skiing on the slope were hit.
Police say snow covering an area about 200 meters wide and 300 meters long collapsed outside the ski area of Mount Norikura Snow Resort in Matsumoto City.
That point is about one kilometer away from the highest point that can be reached by ski lifts.
Local weather officials have issued an avalanche advisory for Norikura Kamikochi due to fresh snow.
