Social Democratic Party Leader Fukushima Projected To Win

The leader of the Social Democratic Party, Fukushima Mizuho, is projected to retain her seat in the proportional representation segment.
The 66-year-old lawmaker has served four terms in the Upper House.
She turned to politics after spending over 10 years as a lawyer. In 2009 Fukushima took a ministerial post with responsibility for the declining birth rate, gender equality, consumer affairs and food safety as part of a Democratic Party-led government.
Before this election, Fukushima was her party's only lawmaker in the Upper House.
