Suga: Emissions Cuts Needed To Reach Un Sdgs

Japan's Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide has reiterated his intention to achieve a carbon-neutral society by 2050.
Suga spoke in a task force meeting convened on Tuesday to discuss plans to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which include eradicating poverty by 2030.
He said that in order to attain the SDGs in the post-coronavirus era, it's important to engage in social reform with the future in mind.
Suga said climate change is an issue that all of humanity must aim to resolve without delay.
The task force was briefed on how much progress has been made in achieving the goals and informed that the introduction of renewable energy was going smoothly.
On the role of women, the task force noted that a gender gap report ranked Japan number 120 out of 156 countries. It said the situation was very disappointing.
A review by private sector experts of the government goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050 was also presented. It said the huge increase in renewable energy is still not nearly enough to attain the target and that more of it needs to be introduced.
