Suga Pledges Vaccine Facility Support To Vietnam
Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide has told Vietnam's top leader that Japan will help the country deliver coronavirus vaccines by supporting "cold chain" logistics.
Suga held a phone conversation on Monday with Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
The prime minister congratulated Trong, who was elected to a third term in January.
He said Japan will provide Vietnam with funds to set up the "cold chain" systems to allow coronavirus vaccines to be transported and stored at low temperatures.
Suga asked for Vietnam's cooperation to support Vietnamese stranded in Japan, who are unable to return home due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Trong replied his country will work closely with Japan to help these people swiftly return to Vietnam.
The two leaders also exchanged their views on regional issues, including China's maritime activities in the East and South China seas, as well as the situation in Myanmar.
