Tokyo Area State Of Emergency May Be Extended

Japan's Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide says he may extend the state of emergency for the greater Tokyo area.
Suga said, "I am thinking that we may need to extend the state of emergency by about two weeks to protect people's lives and livelihoods."
The emergency decree is due to expire on Sunday in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama and Chiba.
Some governors earlier expressed reservations about ending it, saying infection numbers haven't fallen far enough.
The capital reported over 300 new cases on Wednesday. That's a daily jump of more than 100 cases compared to the previous Wednesday.
Overall, the number of new cases has been declining but the rate has been slowing.
Prime Minister Suga is expected to make a final decision later this week after consulting with governors and health experts.
