Tokyo Confirms 258 New Coronavirus Cases
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government says 258 people were confirmed infected with the coronavirus on Friday.
The daily total of infections surpassed 200 for the second day in a row.
The metropolitan government says the people confirmed infected on Friday range in age from under 10 to in their 80s.
People in their 20s and 30s account for about 53 percent of the total, and those in their 40s and 50s account for about 28 percent.
The total number of cases in the capital now stands at 18,865.
Thirty-three patients have severe symptoms according to the criteria used by the metropolitan government. The number is down three from Thursday.
Officials are calling on residents to stay on high alert as the situation in Tokyo remains extremely serious.
The officials are urging maximum precaution and asking people to refrain from traveling outside Tokyo or going to their home towns. They are also asking people to avoid having group dinners at night.
