Tokyo Confirms 36,814 New Cases Of Covid - 19

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government confirmed 36,814 new cases of coronavirus infections on Friday. Five deaths were reported.
The daily tally was up by 1,819 cases from the same day last week. It was the tenth consecutive day that the count was higher than the previous week.
The number of seriously ill patients on ECMO heart-lung machines fell by one from Thursday to 26.
Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko told reporters on Friday that summer vacation and the bon holidays are coming up and more people will be traveling. She asked people to abide by anti-infection measures implemented by organizers when they take part in events. She reminded holidaymakers to keep a certain distance from others when they are at the beach or pool.
Koike said at venues like barbeques, people should wear masks when they are not eating or drinking, try not to speak in a loud voice and refrain from dining for long periods.
The governor said people should get tested in advance when visiting hometowns, or meeting people who are at risk of becoming gravely ill such as the elderly or anyone with preexisting conditions. She said she hopes people will visit online as much as possible.
Koike urged people to ventilate their rooms frequently, even when using air conditioners. She also advised people to stay stocked up on food, daily supplies and medication in case they get infected and have to stay at home.
