Tokyo Draws Up New Measures To Contain Pandemic
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government plans to take additional measures against the coronavirus to improve overburdened healthcare services during the extended state of emergency.
Tokyo officials drew up the measures on Tuesday after the central government decided to keep the state of emergency in place until March 7 in Tokyo and 9 other prefectures.
The officials aim to keep the average seven-day number of new infections at 70 percent of the previous week's level or lower.
The officials have found that the flow of people in downtown districts drop at night, but does not fall during the day and even increases at lunchtime.
They will ask people to refrain from making nonessential outings throughout the day.
As a response to clusters of infections at medical and nursing care facilities, the metropolitan government plans to provide financial support to help them take anti-infection steps. Additional doctors and nurses will be posted to locations in need of assistance.
Officials also plan to conduct mass testing at care homes to curb the spread of the virus among the elderly who could become seriously ill if infected.
