Tokyo Governor Welcomes Hashimoto Appointment

Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko has welcomed the appointment of Hashimoto Seiko as the new head of the Tokyo Games organizing committee.
Koike told reporters on Friday that Hashimoto is an Olympic medalist who has taken part in the games seven times.
The governor said she described Hashimoto as an iron lady in an email she sent to the members of the International Olympic Committee.
Koike said Hashimoto's appointment has created a good atmosphere and momentum that will turn a difficult situation into a chance for Japan to make a fresh start.
She said the games open in only 154 days, and many things must be decided. She added that she will fully cooperate with Hashimoto in preparing.
Hashimoto became president of the committee on Thursday after its former head Mori Yoshiro offered to resign over remarks seen as demeaning to women.
