Tokyo Receiving Protest Calls About Mori's Gaffe

Tokyo Metropolitan Government officials say they are receiving complaints over a comment about women made by the head of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics organizing committee.
Mori Yoshiro said in a Japanese Olympic Committee meeting on Wednesday that board meetings with women take too long because they talk too much. He retracted the remark and apologized on Thursday, saying it was inappropriate and goes against the spirit of the Olympics and Paralympics.
Officials at the bureau preparing for the Games said on Friday that they have received more than 100 calls so far.
They said people are saying the remark was inappropriate, and that they are disappointed.
The officials said some people question Tokyo's stance as the host city of keeping Mori in the top organizing committee job, and demand his resignation.
An official said it is disappointing to be criticized for such a remark when staffers at the bureau are working hard to prepare for the Games.
