Tokyo Reports 20,401 New Covid Cases

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported 20,401 new cases of coronavirus infections on Friday.

The daily tally in the capital is down more than 17,000 from a week earlier, and marks the seventh straight day of week-on-week declines.

Tokyo officials said the number of seriously ill patients on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines stood at 42, up two from Thursday.

They also reported 30 deaths---highest figure since March.
