Tokyo Reports 2,160 New Cases Of Coronavirus

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported 2,160 new coronavirus cases in the capital on Saturday.

The figure is up 479 from a week earlier and marks an eighth straight day of week-on-week increases.

The seven-day average through Saturday stands at 1,963.4. That's up 23.3 percent from the previous week.

Tokyo officials said two people infected with the virus died.

They said the number of seriously ill patients on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines stood at three as of Saturday, up one from the previous day.
