The Tokyo Metropolitan Government says it confirmed 29,115 new cases of the coronavirus on Tuesday.

The daily count is down more than 1,700 from a week ago, and marks the fourth straight day of week-on-week decreases.

Tokyo officials say the number of seriously ill patients on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines in the capital stands at 40, up one from Monday.
