Tokyo Reports 543 New Covid - 19 Cases

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government says it confirmed 543 new cases of the coronavirus in the capital on Sunday.

The daily figure topped 500 for the sixth consecutive day.

It rose by 122 from last Sunday and is the 18th straight daily week-on-week increase.

The seven-day average of daily new cases in Tokyo through Sunday is 586.4, up 25.3 percent from a week ago.

The number of people who have tested positive for the virus in the capital since the pandemic began has risen to 130,083.

Tokyo officials say 45 people are in serious condition, unchanged from Saturday.
