Tokyo's New Coronavirus Cases On Wednesday More Than Double From A Week Ago

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported 8,341 new cases of the coronavirus on Wednesday. The figure is up 4,538 from a week ago, or 2.2 times the total last Wednesday.

This marks the 19th straight day of week-on-week increases and the second consecutive day that a daily tally more than doubled from a week earlier.

It is the first time since April 14 that daily new infections topped 8,000.

The number of seriously ill patients on a ventilator or ECMO heart-lung machine is eight, up one from Tuesday.
