Tropical Storm May Approach Western Japan
The Japan Meteorological Agency says a tropical storm developed south of the country's main island of Honshu on Sunday afternoon.
Agency officials say Hinnamnor, with a central atmospheric pressure of 1,004 hectopascals, was in waters near Minamitorishima in the Ogasawara Islands around 3 p.m. They say the storm is moving northwest at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour, packing winds of 64.8 kilometers per hour near its center and gusts of 90 kilometers per hour.
Hinnamnor is expected to change direction and approach western Japan on Wednesday. The officials say warm, moist air, coupled with a rain front, may bring heavy rain to western, eastern and northern Japan on Wednesday and Thursday.
