Us Military Aircraft Osprey Makes Unusual Landing At Amami Airport
An Osprey transport aircraft belonging to the US military made an unusual landing at an airport in Kagoshima Prefecture in southwestern Japan on Friday, just 10 minutes after the airport was notified.
The landing did not affect civilian flights. No injuries have been reported.
The prefecture said the plane arrived at Amami Airport on Amami Oshima Island around 10:00 a.m.
An NHK camera at the airport captured the plane, parked at the corner of the apron.
Defense Ministry sources say the plane is believed to belong to the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.
The airport office said it received a notice of the landing from the office of Naha Airport in neighboring Okinawa Prefecture about 10 minutes before the arrival.
The prefecture and the Defense Ministry's regional bureau of Kyushu are collecting information about the reason for the landing.
