Mazda Reports Quarterly Slump As 2020 Recovery Sets In

Mazda reports quarterly slump as 2020 recovery sets in

TOKYO — Mazda on Thursday posted a 7.59 billion yen ($73.4 million) operating loss in the three months ended Sept 30 as sales contracted amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The loss, calculated by Reuters from the company's half-year result, compares with an 18.9 billion profit in the same quarter last year and a 45.3 billion yen loss in the first three months of the business year, which was its worst in quarter in 11 years.

Junkyard Gem: 2001 Subaru Legacy Outback Wagon, Duct Tape Interior Edition

Junkyard Gem: 2001 Subaru Legacy Outback Wagon, Duct Tape Interior Edition

Living in Denver, I have the opportunity to view just about every model of Subaru sold since the late 1970s in my local car boneyards, from the "Making Love In a Subaru" era of super-cheap tiny cars all the way through to the odd-looking B9 Tribecas. Since the third-generation Outback wagons are now at least 16 years old, they've begun showing up in vast quantities here (which works well for me, since I'd like to upgrade my '04 Outback with options it didn't have when new). Most of these cars aren't sufficiently interesting to achieve Junkyard Gem status, though I have documented a McIntosh-audio-equipped Outback VDC and a fully-loaded Outback H6 in recent years, but today's car had such a dramatic — if horribly impractical — interior that I felt compelled to photograph it.

Toyota Sees Profit Slip But Beat Earlier Forecasts

Toyota sees profit slip but beat earlier forecasts

TOKYO — Toyota's July-September profit fell 11% from a year earlier as the coronavirus pandemic slammed global demand, but Japan's top automaker appeared to be holding up better than weaker rivals that have sunk into the red.

Toyota reported Friday a quarterly profit of 470.5 billion yen ($4.5 billion), down from 530 billion yen a year ago. Quarterly sales slipped to 6.77 trillion yen ($65 billion) from 7.64 trillion yen.

Honda Launches Used-car Leasing Program Through The Fair App

Honda launches used-car leasing program through the Fair app

If you can lease a new car, why not a Certified Pre-Owned used car? That notion would seem to offer even lower payments since the depreciation over the term of the lease would be less. To date, however, that idea has not caught on, but now Honda is — very tentatively — testing the waters of CPO car leasing.

For the program, Honda has hooked up with Fair.com, a used-car leasing site that was started a few years ago. Fair offers the ability to lease a used car on either a month-by-month basis or for a fixed term, and charges a start payment (down payment) along with a monthly fee that also includes routine maintenance and roadside assistance.

2021 Nissan Frontier Previewed In Design Sketches

2021 Nissan Frontier previewed in design sketches

Nissan is finally preparing to replace the Frontier. It's not ready to show the truck yet, but it subtly gave us an early look at it by concealing its front end in a design presentation about the updated global-market Navara.

Spotted by Motor1, the image briefly appears in a 15-minute video published on YouTube by Nissan's Mexican division. Above all, it confirms the Navara sold overseas and the Frontier sold here will not look anything alike.

2021 Nissan Maxima 40th Anniversary Edition price revealed

Pricing for the 2021 Nissan Maxima 40th Anniversary Edition and the Maxima lineup in general is out. The special edition package will cost $2,125, and you'll be able to tack it on to the $43,145 Platinum trim (price includes a $925 destination charge). That leaves the final asking price at $45,270, which is nearly spot-on with what our guesstimate pegged it at in our original reveal post.

The package includes a two-tone Ruby Slate Gray Pearl exterior with black roof, 19-inch gloss black wheels, black exterior trim and badges, black exhaust finishers, red semi-aniline leather seating with 40th Anniversary embossing, red interior stitching, satin dark chrome interior trim, white speedometer and tachometer faces to remind of past Maxima models, and heated rear seats.

2022 Subaru Brz To Be Revealed Nov. 18

2022 Subaru BRZ to be revealed Nov. 18

The 2022 Subaru BRZ will be officially revealed to the world in production form on Nov. 18, the Japanese automaker announced Wednesday. Like most of 2020's big reveals, the 2022 BRZ will be shown online.

We've known for some time that the next-generation BRZ's debut was imminent. After all, disguised prototypes have been testing on public roads in southeast Michigan, and one such prototype was also shown (still camouflaged) to attendees of a charity preview event last month, from which a few images leaked.
