Widow expresses disappointment over civil court ruling

The widow of a deceased Finance Ministry official said she is disappointed with a civil court ruling that failed to reveal any information about how her husband was pressured to falsify government documents.

Akagi Masako's husband, Toshio, committed suicide in 2018. The Osaka District Court on Friday dismissed her claims for damages from a former high-ranking Finance Ministry bureaucrat. Sagawa Nobuhisa had allegedly ordered the tampering of documents related to the sale of state-owned land to school operator Moritomo Gakuen.

US President Donald Trump has sent a letter of condolence to the widow of Yokota Shigeru, who died last month without seeing his daughter after her abduction by North Korea decades ago.

Yokota Megumi was abducted in 1977 on her way home from junior high school in Niigata City, on the Sea of Japan coast. Shigeru and his wife Sakie spearheaded efforts by the families of abductees to bring their loved ones back home. He died on June 5 at the age of 87.

Widow sues state over land-sale scandal

The widow of an ex-finance ministry official, who committed suicide after he was forced to falsify ministry documents, has filed a lawsuit. She is demanding damages from the government and former chief of the ministry's financial bureau, Nobuhisa Sagawa, who allegedly instructed her husband to falsify the documents.

The suit was filed with a court in Osaka, western Japan, on Wednesday, seeking about 110 million yen, or over 1 million dollars.
