Toyota unveiled the 2022 Tundra last night and we've already covered the truck as well as its all-new infotainment system and rugged TRD Pro variant.
If you were hoping to nab one of the last Acura NSX supercars, Acura has confirmed to Autoblog that it has already sold out the entire allocation of 300 NSX Type S models that were slated for America. However, you might still have a remote chance.
"We have seen tremendous interest in the 2022 NSX Type S following its debut at Monterey Car Week. At this time, confirmed orders have far surpassed the 300-unit allocation for the U.S. market, and new orders received are being added to a waitlist," an Acura spokesperson told us. That might be an understatement, as Motor1 is reporting a Black-Friday-esque rush that cleared the shelves in 24 hours and a waiting list of more than 100.
The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback has gone on sale in the United States, following its debut earlier this year.
Pricing is out for the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback, and as expected, it's more expensive than the sedan. Your entry-level model is the LX, which is combined with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a CVT. It starts at $23,915, including the destination charge. That's $1,220 more than the LX sedan.
For your troubles, the Hatchback features a "sportier driving character" than the sedan, much more utility in the cargo area, and especially slick exterior styling. For those who like to row your own, you can also spec it with a six-speed manual transmission. Three-pedal enthusiasts will be looking at a $25,115 starting price for the Sport trim. And in case you wanted an automatic Sport, it's the exact same price as the manual at $25,115.
I walked away thinking that there are a lot of interesting design details worth discussing after spending a day with the all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra. There's the massive grille with a chromed-out mustache-shaped highlight on some trim levels. Then there are the lighting elements that look like they've been pulled taught in several different dimensions, sort of like toffee that's being stretched in a candy shop. There are blacked-out A- and B-pillars that give the roof a sort of helmet-shaped look.
Good morning and welcome to our daily digest of automotive news from around the globe, starting with…
WASHINGTON — Honda's U.S. unit said on Monday it is targeting initial annual sales of 70,000 for its planned electric Prologue sport utility vehicle when it goes to market in 2024.
Honda plans to add additional electric vehicle models as it aims to have sold a total of 500,000 electric vehicles in the United States by 2030, and to achieve 100% zero emission vehicles sales in North America by 2040.
In the ever-escalating truck wars in America, where the fullsize pickup outsells every other type of vehicle, 15 years isn't just a long time. It's practically an eternity. But that's how long Toyota kept its second-generation Tundra on sale, having debuted all the way back in February of 2006 for the 2007 model year. Back then, the Tundra's 5.7-liter V8 engine's 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque sounded impressive, the six-speed automatic was state of the art and its 10,000-pound tow rating was competitive. Today? Not so much.
It's about time, then, for a thorough redesign. And the 2022 Toyota Tundra is exactly that — there isn't a single nut or bolt that carries over from the outgoing truck. In place of the old truck's V8 engine is a new twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6, optionally assisted by an electrified hybrid variant that's both more powerful and more efficient. In standard form, 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque are shuttled through a 10-speed automatic to either the rear wheels or all four.
When the Lexus LS 400 first appeared here in late 1989 (as a 1990 model), sellers of German-made luxury sedans broke out in the shaky sweats and car shoppers flocked to see — and buy — this well-built statusmobile that retailed for about 60% of the price of the cheapest S-Class. Not attracting nearly as much attention at the time was the other introductory vehicle of the Lexus brand: the ES 250. Sold here for just the 1990 and 1991 model years, the first-generation ES was the most Camry-like of its kind and the hardest to find today. Here's a '91 in a San Francisco Bay Area yard.
Toyota believes there are enough minivan drivers out there with dreams of conquering dirt paths that it created the 2022 Sienna Woodland Special Edition. Special shocks create 6.9 inches of ground clearance, putting the sylvan trim right there with the Jeep Renegade, to go with standard all-wheel drive and 18-inch wheels, roof rails with crossbars, a 1,500-watt power inverter in the cargo area, and a 3,500-pound towing capacity. Cars Direct got a look at a Toyota order guide, and according to that, Toyota also believes people are ready to splurge to the tune of $46,565 for the Sienna Woodland Edition. That figure includes the $1,215 destination charge.
Doing the math finds that the Woodland trim adds $3,600 to the price of the seven-seater Sienna XLE AWD trim that it's based on, leapfrogging the price of the XSE trim. Only the Limited and Platinum trims will be more expensive before options.
In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Senior Editor James Riswick. This week, they talk about driving the Genesis GV70, VW ID.4 and VW Taos. They talk about ways Chevy could "fix" the Camaro. James ranked all the James Bond films based solely on their starring cars. Next, they reach in the mailbag and discuss the question, "Do you think Lexus will make a successor to the LFA and, if so, what do you guys think it would be like?" After ruminating on that query, they dip into the mailbag a second time to recommend a sporty crossover to a listener in this week's Spend My Money segment.

A team of engineers in the UK led by Ben Scott-Geddes had supercar backgrounds, Scott-Geddes having worked on the McLaren F1, BMW LMS racer, Caparo T1, and Ferrari SF90, his crew bearing similar go-fast résumés. Instead of making what they knew, however, they made a left turn and headed for the literal hills about 18 months ago. The mission for their new company, Fering, is "to develop a vehicle that could traverse the globe with a lighter impact." Scott-Geddes was especially interested in a vehicle that could cross an unsupported 4,000-kilometer section of the Arctic through Canada and Russia. The result is the Fering Pioneer, a range-extended electric off-roader packed with novelties.
The least unusual aspect is the powertrain, centered around a twin bank of lithium titanium oxide batteries with a combined 20-kWh capacity. The battery chemistry isn't as efficient as lithium-ion, but it's better at holding a charge in extreme heat and cold, and more resistant to fire, impacts, and punctures. The small unit is good for about 50 miles of pure electric driving, but it's kept charged by an 800-cc diesel range-extender engine taken from a Smart. That combo powers two electric motors, one on each axle, that put out a combined 443 pound-feet of torque. Top speed is about 80 miles per hour.
The 2022 Nissan Frontier represents the first redesign of Nissan's midsize pickup in many years. Although it still shares some bones with its predecessor, the changes are substantial enough that it's finally a serious competitor again. It features updated styling, a much higher-quality interior and a refined, powerful engine and transmission. It's not perfect, but nothing in the segment is, and it has a number of highlights that could make it the perfect truck for your particular needs.
Specifically, the Frontier is a really good driver's truck. It has a quality and stylish interior that's comfortable with great visibility. It has a remarkably smooth and powerful V6 with a similarly slick transmission. It also offers impressive handling with steering that would make some sporty cars jealous. These aspects add up to a truck that trades some maximum capability (space, towing and payload) for a more enjoyable daily drive. If that sounds good to you, the Frontier needs to be near the top of your shopping list.
