Porsche Announces Pricing, Android Auto Availability For The 2022 911

Porsche announces pricing, Android Auto availability for the 2022 911

The emblematic Porsche 911 is entering the 2022 model year after learning a few tech tricks from the Taycan. It gains a new infotainment system that's compatible with Android Auto, and the range now includes the race-bred GT3.

While the German firm is making no major visual or mechanical changes for 2022, all 911 models gain the latest generation of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system. It's displayed on a 10.9-inch touchscreen, and it's related to the software packed into the Taycan, meaning users can customize its layout.

2000 - 2006 Honda Insight | Used Vehicle Spotlight

2000-2006 Honda Insight | Used Vehicle Spotlight

Any car that heavily commits to a certain goal is instantly intriguing. Some chase the fastest lap time. Others aim to accomplish the highest top speeds. For the original Honda Insight, that goal was fuel efficiency. With original fuel economy ratings of 61 mpg in the city and 70 mpg on the highway, it completely obliterated expectations for what a fuel efficient car was capable of at the turn of the millennium. Of course, the EPA has since adjusted ratings for older vehicles, leaving the Insight at 49 mpg city and 61 mpg highway. Regardless, those numbers are nothing to scoff at.

What is easy to forget about the Insight is that it beat the Toyota Prius to production as the first gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle to be sold in the U.S. And that's not all. It crushed the Prius in fuel economy, too, as the Toyota achieved 42 mpg city and 41 mpg on the highway. These figures may have gone in one ear and out the other a year ago as oil prices dipped below $0 and gas prices fell through the floor, but gas is back to a more normal price now. Maybe you're thinking about the eventuality of a commute again as the vaccine continues to be distributed. Or perhaps you liked not spending money on fuel over the last year? If so, let's take a ride on the Insight express.

2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness Literally Takes The Wagon To New Heights

2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness literally takes the wagon to new heights

MALIBU, Calif. — About half a century ago, a power company fleet manager wandered into a Subaru dealership in northern Japan. Searching for a vehicle for servicing electrical lines across the region's mountainous and snowy terrain, the manager eventually talked Subaru into building the world's first four-wheel-drive wagon.

That wagon begat generations of surprisingly capable successors, and it could be argued that one of them, the lifted AWD wagon known as the 1994 Outback, kicked off the modern CUV craze. Fast forward to today and the current Subaru Outback is bigger and more crossover than ever, catering to outdoorsy families who recognize how useful its distinctive capabilities can be for their adventures. Still, there are some outdoorsy families who like traveling further out back into the hinterlands than others. They're the folks who have already been lifting their Outbacks further and putting more aggressive rubber on them. The new 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness is for them.

Lexus Lf - Z Electrified Previews Future Lexus Hybrids And Evs

Lexus LF-Z Electrified previews future Lexus hybrids and EVs

While the company has yet to release a fully electric car or even plug-in hybrid in the U.S., the company is adamant that it's ramping up electric plans. One way it's doing this is with concept cars, and the latest is the Lexus LF-Z Electrified, just in case you forgot what powers it before the middle of this sentence. It's not a specific preview of any particular model, but is meant as a hint of a series of, well, electrified Lexus models coming in the next few years.

The LF-Z is a clear evolution of the LF-30 Electrified concept from the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. Like that concept, the front of the car effectively inverts the current Lexus grille design, with the "spindle" section in the middle being solid, and the area on either side covered with dark translucent panels that evoke open areas. The whole body is more crisp and creased than the LF-30, and it looks a little more grounded in reality. It has four conventional doors with actual door handles, the proportions are closer to a sedan or fastback, and a seemingly conventional taillight bar. But getting up close reveals many intricate details such as the cubic shapes in the front fascia, the frilled edges of the front fender flares, and the narrow breaks in the lighting.

Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha To Make Swappable Motorcycle Batteries

Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha to make swappable motorcycle batteries

Just as electric cars are becoming ever more common, the alternative propulsion system is starting to make headway in the motorcycle sphere. Companies such as Harley-Davidson and Zero already have electric models on sale, but other established brands are preparing for the electric future. Among them are the four big Japanese bike builders (Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha) who have a plan to improve electric bike adoption, and make their bikes very appealing.

The four companies created an organization back in April 2019 for this sort of purpose called the Swappable Battery Consortium for Electric Motorcycles. And the group has now announced that the manufacturers have agreed on the specifications for motorcycle batteries that can be interchanged among each company's motorcycles. So if you have a Suzuki, you can use a Honda battery, or vice versa.

Toyota Is Taking The Rally - Inspired Gr Yaris Rallying After All

Toyota is taking the rally-inspired GR Yaris rallying after all

Toyota's celebrated GR Yaris became a homologation special without a series in 2020, so the firm's Australian division seized an opportunity to work with a local team to give the hatchback its 15 minutes of fame on gravel. It transformed the rally-inspired city car into a full-blown rally car named GR Yaris Asia-Pacific 4WD (AP4).

Neal Bates Motorsport (NBM) and Toyota Australia worked together on the project, and the carmaker proudly noted its involvement wasn't limited to providing discounted spare parts. Its product planning and development division designed the AP4's body (including the wider fenders on both axles) and helped shape its aerodynamic profile.
