Japan Preparing For Olympic Torch Despite Virus

A Japanese Cabinet minister says organizers of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are working on preparations for the torch relay to be held later this month as planned.

The relay is scheduled to start on March 26 in Fukushima Prefecture.

Minister in charge of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics Seiko Hashimoto met reporters on Tuesday. She said joint efforts by officials from relevant ministries and agencies, organizing committees, and the Tokyo metropolitan government, are extremely important.

Hashimoto said she wants to provide accurate information and reassure the International Olympic Committee and its president Thomas Bach that Tokyo is ready to hold the games.
